Sore Ear Before Wax Removal

If you are experiencing mild, achy pain, this may be due to the amount of wax you have in your ears and wax removal will possibly resolve this.

If you are experiencing moderate to severe pain, this could be an underlying infection and we recommend you see your GP first for treatment.

Sore Ear After Wax Removal

This is extremely rare, however, if you are experiencing mild pain, this may be due to removal of large amounts of wax in conjunction with extremely sensitive ears. This will only last a few days and can be resolved with simple analgesia.

If you are experiencing moderate to severe pain, this could be an underlying infection. We recommend you visit your GP for treatment.

Suspected Infection

Your ears may feel blocked in 1-7 days if you have an infection. If we note an infection on the day of your appointment we will advise you to contact your GP and a further appointment will be made for after the infection is cleared.

Irrigation

Avoid getting water in your ears for 3-5 days after having Water Irrigation. Place a piece of cotton wool in your ear during showering/swimming or wear a shower cap.

Microsuction

If you have had Microsuction, it is fine to allow water into your ears unless advised otherwise.

Everyone's ears are different, some people benefit from Microsuction, others Water Irrigation.

Each appointment will be tailored to you needs or preferred method of earwax removal.
